Chinternet

In the West, we largely talk about China’s relationship with the Internet in terms of governmental censorship, control and surveillance. In fact, not long after the Chinese government opened Internet access to Chinese people at the end of the 90’s, it gradually developed the internet censorship system known as ‘the Great Firewall of China”. This gave birth to the Chinese Internet.

The Chinese Internet also called “Chinternet”, is a vibrant, diverse and intricate digital world filled with its own languages, linguistic characteristics and aesthetic codes.

A Digital Ecosystem with Chinese Characteristics

In the first chapter, we present a broad selection of artists who display creative engagements with the Chinese internet and show a complex digital creativity arising from a culture of over 1.032 billion internet users in 2022. This publication features artworks from a wide range of medium including online and offline formats, that not only highlight the uniqueness of digital culture in China, but also explore global issues such as the impact of the digital on culture and society.

Post Humanism

What is it to be Human in a Post Human era ?

The frenetic pace of changes taking place in contemporary China as well as its hyper-digitization have significant impacts on society and especially on the psychological level. As a result, psychological health has become one of the major health concerns in China, paving the way for the use of technology for health.

In this last part we will see how artists use medical technologies, AI and neuroscience, as a medium to explore the human body, its language and its emotions in order to examine more broadly the notion of the human and its relation to technology.
